Credit other reviewers for helpful tips and BoxWave for sending me at no charge a second adhesive thingie to try. Plus, BoxWave was also willing to respond to customer requests to begin packing instructions with the TinyMounts.

I gave up trying to get two adhesive disks to stick to anything in my car, and that ended my pursuit of my preferred installation location. If I had been willing to mount the disk with screws (I think the tabs with holes were designed for screws or brads), I could have mounted it where I actually wanted it.

The suction cup mounting scheme worked fine on glass, and the mount worked well with my Nokia 822, Windows 8 phone that is pretty heavy.

One simply cannot go wrong for the price, even with compromises. Where and how you mount this varies greatly along with what device you use; and that, to me is why the reviews and ratings differ so much.

Here are the instructions directly from BoxWave:

    TinyMount Operating Instructions

    Included in this package:

    (1) BoxWave TinyMount with locking suction cup base.

    (1) Optional adhesive mounting plate.

To mount on glass or other smooth surface:

    1. Remove TinyMount contents from packaging.

    2. Clean and dry the surface you intend to mount TinyMount to.

    3. Remove protective plastic film from suction cup base of TinyMount.

    4. With one hand on the suction cup base and one hand on the mount, gently pull apart the TinyMount until the two halves of are at a 90 degree angle.

    5. Firmly but gently press the base onto the mounting surface until a seal is formed. TinyMount should be able to stay put on its own if the seal is good. (Tip: you may want to wet the surface of the suction cup slightly for a better seal.)

    6. On the base you\'ll see a locked symbol and an unlocked symbol. Firmly but gently rotate the base plate clockwise from the unlocked to the locked position, roughly a 1/6 turn. TinyMount should at this point be successfully mounted and locked.

    7. Pull back spring loaded, cushioned clamp and insert your device.

    8. Rotate, swivel, and otherwise adjust the mount until desired viewing angle is reached.

To mount on a non-smooth surface such as an automobile dashboard using included mounting plate:

    1. Remove TinyMount contents from packaging.

    2. Clean and dry the surface you intend to mount TinyMount to.

    3. Remove plastic backing from included adhesive mounting plate.

    4. Firmly but gently press all edges and middle of the mounting plate until adhesive is evenly attached to surface. Wait approximately 1 minute before continuing.

    5. Remove protective plastic film from suction cup base of TinyMount.

    6. With one hand on the suction cup base and one hand on the mount, gently pull apart the TinyMount until the two halves of are at a 90 degree angle.

    7. Firmly but gently press the base onto the mounting plate until a seal is formed. TinyMount should be able to stay put on its own if the seal is good. (Tip: you may want to wet the surface of the suction cup slightly for a better seal.)

    8. On the base you\'ll see a locked symbol and an unlocked symbol. Firmly but gently rotate the base plate clockwise from the unlocked to the locked position, roughly a 1/6 turn. TinyMount should at this point be successfully mounted and locked.

    9. Pull back spring loaded, cushioned clamp and insert your device.

    10. Rotate, swivel, and otherwise adjust the mount until desired viewing angle is reached.

    To Mount Phone/Other Device

    1. Hold the two sides of the clamp, the tabs with soft pads on them, in separate hands. Gently pull them apart in opposite directions and you\'ll see that one side slides out.

    2. Holding the clamp open, place your device between the two clamp tabs. Make sure it is centered.

    3. Release the spring-loaded clamp tab and they will gently retract to securely hold your device in place.

Got this on a deal advertised on Facebook, and as i travel a lot and use GPS on my phone, I thought it was worth the try. After about a month of use I would say it is OK.

    The Good:
-The suction cup mount works great. Have not had problem yet on any car, and it never fell.
-The spring loaded holders (don\'t know what else to call them) do a great job holding the phone and are easy to use.
-It is small enough to fit in my luggage with no issues.

    The Bad:
-The hinge seems to have loosened or weakened with use. The first time I used it, the mount was great and held the iPhone right where I wanted it. As I have used it more, the hinge does not work as well and the phone will not stay in the position I want. The position it stays in is OK, but not Optimal, hence the OK rating.

    Hope this helps.

I have purchased 6 of these due to my experience with them. I purchased them as gifts after I bought them for myself and others in my household. We have used them successfully with Galaxy S2, Galaxy 23, Samsung Note, HTC One X, and iPhone. We love how compact it is and that it is adjustable. My mother uses her\'s with her GPS device.

This mount is awesome and I highly recommend it to anyone. It does not come with instructions so it did take me a few times before I figured out how the suction mechanism worked.

There is a turn dial that needs to be turned to be able to mount or dismount. The dial directly controls the suction function. It comes with a plastic disc that has adhesive on one side, this is for areas that are un-suctionable.

    Hope this helps:)

    UPDATE: 07.16.2013
I had my first one for close to a year (07.13.12 - 05.31.13), and am now on my second. I have to say that I do love this car mount, but I agree with BJ that the spring grip is a little on the tight side for a while and then it does ease up. The problems that I did have were (I have had the same problems with all the other brands I bought also so I\'m not sure if you can find a car mount without them unfortunately):

    Specifics - 1st Tiny Mount
    - Purchased: 07.13.12
    - Replaced: 05.31.13
    - Mounted (1st TinyMount): Below Dash, Middle of Console above stereo (Why? Liv in CA, Dash get\'s extremely hot in summer, thought it might melt the mount glue so it wouldn\'t stay put)

    Issues:
    - Rubber Grip Pad fell off sometime in March.2013 (my original review was in February.2013)
    - Plastic Ball/rotating mechanism broke (May.2013)

I mounted the new one on my dash and I will see how it holds up with the heat:)

    NOTE:
    - To Those with Heavy Hands:)
My husband is heavy handed and breaks many things, he opened a sliding glass door and ripped the metal handle off as he also did with a toaster oven handle, shower handle (many times), etc. etc. I reminded him to use his gentile hands with this tiny mount but he broke the first one within a week (I was surprised it took that long:). We ordered him another one, since he likes the compact size, and he has had it for about 6 months now:)

I have purchased several different phone holders in the past, and they all were disappointing. This is the first one I found that actually works...and it works well!

I use this to hold my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy SIII) while I am working at my desk. I affixed it to my desk with the built-in suction cup about 6 months ago...and it is still sticking firmly. I put my phone in and out of the cradle about 10 times a day and I\'m not subtle about it and the suction cup has never come loose.

The holder is very sturdy and the phone does not flop around at all. I haven\'t used it in the car, but I\'m guessing it will do equally as well there.
